Red Chapel

last update: 29.11.2009

North Wall - Block No. 128

Stone: red quartzite (origin - from the "Red Mountains" of Djebel Akhmar, an area near Heliopolis)

Beautiful Feast of the (Desert) Valley, Register 5, return from from Deir el-Bahari to Karnak.
The block shows the barque of Amun which had been put inside the "Alabaster Chapel" called "Enduring is the foundation of Amun" (inscription right below the barque inside the chapel) after the return to Karnak. Left of the chapel Hatshepsut is actually performing the ritual "Giving the field, 4 times (wdj sxt zp jfdw)" (as the text in front of her reads). She is accompanied by the running Apis bull. The text above the bull tells "Getting out [the] Apis (pHrr Hapw)". "Giving the filed, 4 times" and "Bringing out [the] Apis [bull]" indicated that Hatshepsut is performing "sed-festival".
